2010 Season Highlight Daytona, Feb. 14, 2010 - After excruciating delays, stops and re-starts, the Daytona 500 finish did not disappoint. Jamie McMurray bumped and banged his way to the front to take his first victory in the Great American Race. Earnhardt Jr. also had an impressive finish, charging from 10th to 2nd late in the race.
TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Brad Keselowski won his first Sprint Cup Series race Sunday after a dramatic final lap at Talladega Superspeedway when Carl Edwards\' airborne car sailed into the fence near the finish line. Edwards later warned that restrictor-plate racing is eventually going to kill someone. Keselowski, racing in just his fifth career Cup race, hooked onto the rear of Edwards\' bumper on the last lap to push him past Ryan Newman and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Once clear of them, Keselowski peeked around Edwards to make a move for the lead. Edwards tried to block the move by darting low, but Keselowski was too close to his bumper and the contact sent Edwards sailing up the track. His spinning car shot over Newman\'s hood and into the safety fence near on the front stretch. The fence swelled toward the race fans but held, and Edwards\' car landed back on the track. He climbed from the crumpled metal and ran on foot across the finish line. \"We\'ll race like this until we kill somebody,\" Edwards said afterward. \"Then they will change it.\" Edwards was referring to the high speeds at NASCAR\'s fastest track, which are combated by horsepower-sapping restrictor plates. The plates typically keep the field bunched tightly together, and one wrong move by a driver can cause a massive accident.
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Tony Stewart won his first race as a team owner Saturday night, breaking through for a $1 million payday with a victory in the annual All-Star race. Stewart passed Matt Kenseth with two laps to go of a thrilling final 10-lap shootout to win his first All-Star event in 11 previous starts. It was the first victory since he left Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of last year, after two championships and 10 successful seasons, to become co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. In just six months, Smoke has turned his new toy into a championship contender. It was the first win for the organization, which was known as Haas CNC Racing for its first seven seasons. The win at Lowe\'s Motor Speedway was in front of co-owner Gene Haas, who was at the track for the first time since the completion of a 16-month federal prison term for tax fraud. \"Man, he\'s not going to miss a week now,\" Stewart said. \"He gets here and we win a race.\" Stewart became the second driver/owner to win the All-Star race, joining Geoff Bodine, who won in 1994. His crew urged him to the climb the fence in celebration — a tradition he started several years ago — but the driver who turns 38 next week declined. His crew climbed for him. Kenseth finished second and was followed by Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards. The format of the Sprint-sponsored event was once again changed, this time to cut the 100-lap race into four segments that culminated with a 10-lap sprint to the finish. It was a nod to races past, which had a history of dramatic dash-for-the-cash finishes. It didn\'t disappoint.
The closest finish in Indy Car history. Castroneves and Dixon, 1st and 2nd in points With Dixon winning the championship and Castroneves winning the race. A great close to the 2008 Indy Car season.
In 1960 Daytona Superspeedway hosted this sportsman race. 68 cars entered into the race, back then there were a maximum of 68 cars in a superspeedway race. Coming out of turn four 37 cars get into a massive wreck where at least six cars get on their roofs.
On lap 32 of the race at Dover International Speedway driver Tony Stewart runs into the rear of Joey Logano causing him to wreck and barrel-roll side over side eight times. Thankfully Logano was fine and escaped the horrific crash free of injuries.
